Workshop: Artistic epistemologies from the aftermath of colonialism and the question of indigeneity in Southeast Asia
Englischsprachiger Workshop mit Rosalia Namsai Engchuan, Künstlerin und Forscherin
Filmreihe: Tage des indigenen Films
Rosalia Namsai Engchuan will be in conversation with artist and filmmaker Riar Rizaldi on the potentialities of artistic languages for indigenous futures.
We cannot solve the problems of the present with the same modes of thinking that have caused these problems in the first place. What are de-colonial artistic strategies in speaking from within and to ongoing conditions of coloniality and persistent capitalist extraction and environmental degradation?
Riar Rizaldi explores cinematic and artistic languages that escape hegemonic modes of thinking. Situated in Indonesia, these works expose the Anthropocene and its foundational assumption of human exceptionalism, a worldview entirely foreign to other parts of the world, as the colonial, racial Capitalocene that it is. From here, he speculates on escapes out of the unfortunate downward spiral with cosmologies and temporalities that expose and transcend the brute linearity of Western colonial modernity.
The conversation will center on the situation in Indonesia and on broader questions of the notion of indigeneity in Southeast Asia - a place with long histories of migration.
